Ingredients
50 g fresh Ginger
30 g fresh Turmeric
2 Flowers of Mace or 1/4 tsp Mace Powder
3 medium pieces of Cinnamon or 1/4 tsp Cinnamon Powder
4 pieces of Cardamom
4 leaves Tulsi (Indian Basilikum)
4 cups Water
A few dry leaves of saffron and some honey according to taste
How to make Kadha
This is one of the few recipes in which I will not tell you to peel the ginger – as you are not going to actually eat it! So you don’t need to peel ginger nor turmeric, but you should wash both well before starting to cook.
Put ginger, turmeric, cardamom and the tulsi leaves into a mortar or a blender. If you use mace and cinnamon in full pieces, add those spices, too, and mash everything nicely. You don’t need to make a paste out of it – that would take a while – but everything should be broken so that it can give its flavor to the tea later.
Now you give this mixture into a pot with water and heat that water up. If you use mace and cinnamon in the form of powder, add it now. The whole mixture should boil for about five minutes so that the water gets the good taste of this tea.
And then your Kadha is ready for being served! When you fill your cups, just pour the tea through a sieve. Then you can add honey according to your taste and, if you would like to have an even warmer effect, you can add a few leaves of saffron into it.
Drink your Kadha as warm as possible and you will immediately feel it warming you from the inside! A perfect drink for cold winter evenings!
Ayurvedic Benefits
Kadha reduces your Kapha in a wonderful way – which is why it is so great against all kind of mucus-related problems! Your nose gets free and your chest will feel lighter! Additionally the ginger reduces the Vata in the body!
