How to make Chukandar ka Salad
Although this dish is easy to make, its preparation takes quite a lot of time – but not much effort! Take your yoghurt and hang it in a fine cotton cloth over your sink so that the water can drop out of the yoghurt and it can get more thick and solid. Depending on the consistency of your yoghurt, this process can take from half an hour up to one hour. In order to use the yoghurt, it has to be thick and a bit more firm. Alternatively you can use Greek yoghurt, too, as it has this solid consistency. In that case your preparation time is of course reduced enourmously.
The next step in preparation – while your yoghurt water is dripping out – is to put the washed beetroot in boiling water in a pot. It will take about half an hour of boiling for the beets to get cooked. You can check whether they are ready by sticking a vegetable knife into one of them. If it goes in and comes out smoothly, they are ready.
Take the beetroot out of the water, peel it and grate it. Now you only need to add your yoghurt, some salt and mix it well – your beetroot salad is ready to be served!
