Ingredients
1 cup Basmati Rice or Golden Pulav Rice
2 cups Water
2 tsp Ghee
1/4 tsp Cinnamon
1 tbsp Sugar
1 Cardamom Pod
15 - 20 Saffron Threads
and if you like them: 15 - 20 Raisins
How to make Mithe Chawal
As usual with any rice dish, wash the rice before you prepare it. The only other thing that you need to prepare is the cardamom – crush the pod a little bit so that it is open and can later spread its taste to your rice.
Put all ingredients together in a pot and stir once. Let the rice soak and the saffron threads in the meantime will spread their beautiful yellow colour. After fifteen minutes, you can stir and then place the pot with a lid on top on the stove.
First you need to get the water to boil on high heat. When it is boiling, wait for two minutes and then turn the heat low. And now just let it get cooked. Don’t lift the lid, don’t stir, just let it get done. After about fifteen minutes you can check on your rice. If the water is fully vaporized, you can turn off the stove. Mix it once softly and take the pot off.
And there you are – beautifully yellow sweet rice! Serve it warm and, if you like to decorate your dish, place some saffron threads on top of it.
