Doshas
The Doshas in Ayurveda – your key to inner balance and health
Have you ever wondered what a Dosha really is?
In Ayurveda, the ancient Indian science of life, it is said that all living beings are made up of five elements: earth, water, fire, air, and ether (space). These elements are also at work within us – in our body, our mind, and our emotions.
Each of us carries these elements in a unique mix. Ayurveda describes these combinations as Doshas:
Vata – air and ether
Pitta – fire and water
Kapha – earth and water
Since birth, you have a certain basic constitution, called Prakriti. It determines how your body reacts to external influences such as food, weather, or stress. This inner balance remains the same at its core throughout your life – but it can be disturbed by lifestyle, diet, or environmental factors. Ayurveda helps you restore and maintain this balance.
✨ The three Doshas in everyday life
Vata
Vata people are often slender, full of ideas and enthusiasm. They love movement – physically and mentally. When out of balance, Vata shows up as dryness, cold hands and feet, or worries that grow bigger the more you think about them. In balance, Vata brings creativity and joy for life but needs grounding and calm.
Pitta
Pitta people usually have a medium build, lots of energy, and strong digestion. They are passionate, determined, and love challenges. Out of balance, Pitta can lead to irritability, overheating, skin issues, or stomach troubles. In balance, Pitta brings clarity, decisiveness, and vitality.
Kapha
Kapha people are stable, patient, and have a calm, warm presence. They are reliable, love closeness, and appreciate stability. Out of balance, Kapha can cause sluggishness, weight gain, or mucus-related issues. In balance, Kapha brings endurance, inner peace, and a strong immune system.
